What do you have to do – little work, lots of fun! We know that August is the most intense working month for a dive center and that you will have little time for extra activities. No problem! Dive for Sharks is just a normal recreational dive during which you will organize a little “treasure hunt”. We will provide a short presentation (watch it online or download it as a PDF or a Powerpoint presentation) to show your divers about European sharks. After that, during the course of a normal recreational dive – or perhaps at the end, during the safety stop – your divers will look for a shark toy your staff will have hidden previously. At the end of the dive, divers will then sign the petition (and will then take part in a prize draw offered by diving manufacturers).

That’s it: our aim is to let divers know the dangers sharks are facing and to ask them to sign our petition.

But there could be more…Dive for Sharks could be a real “Day of the Shark”. You could organize other events like a Shark-themed evening party, or show shark documentaries, photos, books (all dive centers have lots of these!), or you could tell your divers your own experiences with sharks in tropical seas. And, you could organize a treasure hunt for snorkellers or beach hunts, slide shows, talks for kids… any activity you can imagine and organize is welcome if it to convinces people their help and signature is needed to protect sharks and their environment.

Details of how to Dive for Sharks :

  1. Divers will look at a brief powerpoint presentation (watch it online or download it as a PDF or a Powerpoint presentation) briefly outlining information on sharks in european waters and the problems they face
  2. During the dive brief, the dive master will ask three questions on sharks (download here the questions & answers). At each correct answer, the dive group will be give information on where the shark toy is located (i.e.: depth, sandy or rocky shore, found at the onset or end of dive etc)
  3. Once back on shore, divers will sign the petition on petition sheets you can download here
