The Shark Alliance is a coalition of over 70 NGOs working to improve European policies on sharks.
Thanks also to the over 100,000 signatures collected across Europe by our members, a few months ago the EU finally passed the first Plan of Action on sharks.
Europe still fishes for vast amounts of endangered sharks every year and loopholes in the European ban on finning (the wasteful practice of slicing off shark fins and dumping the carcass overboard) make it among the weakest in the world.
This year the Shark Alliance is asking for action on the promises made in the Shark Plan and is particularly urging Spain – the EU’s top shark fishing nation – to fish responsibly. We need to make our voice heard. Please, sign the petition!
